A magical night!

It was a magical night for me indeed! Not only did I get to see one of the best and most lovely musicals I've ever seen, it was also magical because in fact I was a few bucks short and this most wonderful lady just gave me $5 so I get to see "The Fantastiks"! I didn't get your name, but I will pass the good deed for sure. Thank you soooo much so I get to enjoy this magical night =D

great show & excellent performance. I cant believe it's taken so long to see this show- even though I'm familiar w/a lot of the music (from early Barbra Streisand albums), but the story is fun and original . good voices , and a good time was had.

In this age of bigger effects and smaller story, it's such a revelation to remember that great theatre is truly made of a great story and "fantastick" actors. This was one of the purist moments of theatre I've seen in years.

Hello - This is a great, great show. I first saw it in 1971, and had the pleasure of seeing it many times before it closed at the Sullivan Street Playhouse. I was delighted to learn that it is still a
part of New York City, and I'm honored to have enjoyed it once again. It has a timeless theme, and I hope it will be here for future generations.

Surprising

This play is quite funny and filled with energy, once it gets going. The cast is excellent and the dialogue witty and charming. The "minor characters" almost steal the show! I would highly recommend this play to anyone, even whole families. -Frank Cecchin MD

We came to NYC from Massachusetts to see "The Merchant of Venice" and "Rain." We got to see Al Pacino, but we weren't able to get tickets for "Rain." We instead purchased tickets for "The Fantasticks" and after seeing the show, we're now glad about the way things turned out! It was an adorable show with amazing actors. The show was funny, sweet, romantic and classic. Next time, "Rain," but for now, we're very pleased with the turn of events.

SHARE-ing Broadway

We are with a group of 18 high school aged foreign exchange students from an organization called SHARE ERDT. What an amazing NYC experience!

I'm happy to say that this show is as delightful now, in 2011, as it was when I was the musical director for it in college at DePaul University in 1970. Words have been changed to make it more politically correct, but the sweetness of the show reigns....and this after only the first act.

Still fresh after all these years! The cast was wonderful and the music as beautiful as I remember. The only thing I was confused by was how quiet the audience was..? Didn't they realize how great this show was??

It is currently intermission, as i stand here, typing, eating m&ms, and thinking of how utterly ageless Fantasticks is. it could be set in any year, any place, any situation. and yet its themes run true. i believe it has now been 15 minutes.

Quite a "fantastick" show. A comment I heard from a fellow patron. It was hilarous! Though not quite the setting I was expecting for a New York theatre. -The Johnson family from Virginia. First time in New York.

This is my 5th time and it is still my favorite show! Wonderful for all ages and a story for all.

The bandit lived up to the part, but they shouldn't have changed the words to "It Depends on What You Pay." That was very disappointing... the only disappointing thing about the performance.

AMAZING!!! My first broadway show and i'll never forget it, the actors were perfect for their roles, it was wayyy better than i couldve possibly imagined, i got awesome front-row and center tickets, and im soo thankful for eveyone involved for creating such an awesome show/ expeiriance. A Tearful Return

Last saw the show in 1964 at the tender age of 17. I WAS Louisa. Now I return at 61 for a rememberance of youth and that after December there is again growth. I loved it all over again. Thank you for the tender memories and the wonder of hope.

I hadn't heard too much about The Fantasticks before seeing it, except that Jerry Orbach was in the original cast. I must say that I loved the production that I saw. The entire cast was wonderful, especially Steve Routman, Michael Nostrand, Gene Jones, and John Thomas Waite. Jordan Nichols is quite talented, too.

The Fantasticks are Fantastic!

My best friend Rebecca works here at the Snapple Theater and I have seen the play once but I really loved it! The actors are phenomenal and fantastick, of course. The cast is just amazing and they work wonderfully together on and off the stage. I have seen many Broadway plays, such as Wicked and Hairspray, and I found the Snapple Theater thee most comfortable and wonderful theater I have been in. Everyone who works here is very nice and friendly and so enthusiastic about their jobs which makes this theater the number one stop for anyone coming in the city are wanting to watch an amazing play.

I started working in the Snapple theater about a month ago. Since I never actually saw the Fantastiks for the first 2 weeks, I started to get very curious to see what it was about. When I saw the whole thing for the first time, I cryed! I love the Fantastiks and all of the actors. Them just being on stage, has taught me so much. I see them everyday and respect how much effort they put into every show! I LOVE THE FANTASTIKS!!!

A Visit From...Kristin Chenoweth

I have many memories of playing Luisa. Singing the songs, acting the first monologue and performing with the cast. Even when the air conditioner broke down at the theater on Sullivan Street, or I slipped and fell on my first entrance, The Fantasticks brought me some of the best times I ever had on stage.

During a particularly hot summer, one July 4th, with no air conditioning... 2 people came to the show. In the opening number, "Try to Remember," we were supposed to scan the audience. I remember not knowing where to look, because there were only 2 people! So, I just bobbed my head back and forth between the two of them!

We had so many good laughs and I remember it being one of the best times of my career.

I never thought the show would be as good as it was. With a name like the Snapple Theater I figured they would have "added" to the show with exorbitant sets. Not true! This is like watching the original production (I would imagine, I am only 18 and did not see the original but have the CD and this sounds very similar.) Wow I was floored. Jeremey Wright's Review

I have seen the show 2 times before, once in the Greenwich Village where it was in the 70's and once in a theater in Fort Lauderdale. The one in the Village was one of my favorite shows ever (up there with Godspell) and the one in Florida was not bad but not as good as the original. This one is just like the original, maybe even better, it seemed fresh and full of vigor. The cast is very talented. Good luck to the show I hope the critics like it.

Differences

There are not a lot of differences between the original 1960 Sullivan Street production and this one. Any changes are subtle and actually work to strengthen things. The beautiful score is intact, with its simple piano and harp. The voices are pure and clear, not microphoned as it was intended to be. Still lots of paper confetti, and lots of emotion.

The best thing about The Fantasticks is the fact that I can bring my children--who range in age from 5 to 8 to 14--and each of them will find an aspect of the show to cling to and understand. For my oldest daughter it's the young love between Luisa and Matt. For my youngest boy it's the action and adventure plus the physical comedy provided by the Old Actor. And for my middle daughter who loves the theater, it's just about everything. As a single parent in NYC sometimes it's hard to find quality family experiences like the Fantasticks. I'm glad this production came back.

I have the C.D. of the revival and I was surprised at how much it resembles the original C.D. Some songs sound exactly the same. I have seen some of this cast in other plays in New York and it looks like it is a good cast. I am excited to see The Fantasticks again.

Maybe I am biased because I have a firend in the show but I think it is an amazing treat to have The fantasticks back in new York, I mean after all where can you find a show that is truly just about the lyrics and storyline and simple music instead of pyrotechnics and big sets and loud orchestras? This is theater in its truest form and I applaud the snapple theater center for putting on the fantasticks.

Matt and Luisa are very strong, they help the show flow smoothly. Dennis parlato is a scary el gallo especially in the "rape" scene which is no longer a rape scene. The acoustics are ehhhh you couldn't hear luisa sometimes. overall a nice production.
